***EXCERPT***
“Come with me when I leave for Paris, Izzy.”
Her eyes grew wide with astonishment. “What? Zayn, no.”
“Why not? We could attend the expo together, make it to your ceremony, and maybe get up to speed on the latest trade developments.”
“I don’t…”
“Think about it,” he urged at her pause. “You can hop onto my itinerary. We could do some sightseeing. At the least, we may even have a little fun.”
Her tongue darted out to worry her bottom lip. “I’m going to stick to my original answer, Zayn. No.”
Maybe he should have asked her after she’d had the glass of wine. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense for them to make the trip together. She couldn’t just ignore the honor she’d been nominated for. What if she did in fact win and she wasn’t even there to accept the trophy?
“He pressed further. “You still haven’t given me a reason. Not any kind of real one.”
“There are too many reasons to count. Our past history being one.”
“We’d only be going as business partners. Nothing more. You have to agree we have a lot to discuss and negotiate. What better time and place to make decisions about our mutual winery than at the French wine expo during a year you happen to be up for an award?”
