Plant a Garden, Raise Some Chicks

A few of my new baby chicks came home yesterday, Rhode Island Reds.  This picture was taken right after and they’re huddled together for warmth.  I did get the temperature right in the brooder, more on that later.

It’s a scary time in the world right now, but I know my purpose.  I need to provide, protect, and preserve my family and our home into the future.  Being a History Buff, I know planting a garden and keeping hens is fundamental to that.

I’ll be posting more on my process in the coming weeks.  In the meanwhile, pop over to Backyard Chickens to learn more.  The site also has information on other backyard farm animals and gardening.  You might be surprised how much you can grow on an apartment balcony, for example.  Also, there are forums where you can find advice from others doing the same thing.

Stay Healthy, Be Kind.
